Where to Shop
Before we get into what you can shop for, it’s good to know the shopping hubs in the city. In Santa Barbara, there’s State Street, one of the main shopping streets downtown. It’s easily walkable, and with our fair weather year round, it’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll between shops. The Funk Zone district close by is artistic and vibrant, perfect if you’re looking for a more eclectic shopping experience. There’s also Paseo Nuevo, a popular open air mall in Santa Barbara. These are set against the backdrop of the beautiful mountains in the area to make for a truly picturesque day.
Water Sports Shopping
Interested in surfing while you’re in Santa Barbara? Maybe paddle boarding or kayaking is more your style, or maybe you just want a nice day of fishing. Whatever the case, you can find plenty of little shops to suit your needs. Many of these shops are close to the beaches. Paddle Sports Center on Harbor Way is perfect for canoes and kayaks. Santa Barbara Surf School has equipment in terrific condition as well as surfing lessons for those interested in, well, getting their feet wet. Want more of a tranquil day of fishing? Check out SEA Landing.
Clothes Shopping
State Street is full of lovely boutiques where you can get in some clothes shopping. DIANI Boutique has trendy clothes, shoes, and accessories. The Closet Trading Company offers not just trendy luxury clothes but bags and other accessories. Free People is a great alternative for free-spirited, bohemian shoppers. The best part is that all these and more can be found on State Street, so it’s just a matter of wandering until you see a clothing boutique that catches your eye.
Art Shopping
Whether you’re an artist or an art lover, Santa Barbara shops have something you can enjoy. Budding artists can pick up art supplies at Art Essentials and let the beautiful scenery around them inspire them. For art galleries, check out 3 D Studio Gallery, Inc., 10 West Gallery, or Sullivan Goss. But there’s more to art than visual art. Jensen Guitar & Music Co. is a great option for music lovers and musicians. Chaucer’s Books is a favorite local bookstore.
